Throwback Thursday

So I am making Thursday's officially "Throwback Thursdays" here at Americanina.  Reason being I just have so many old magazines (mainly Domino) with old articles that are still relevant for today.  So Thursday will officially be the day to revisit the old, thus the title "Throwback."  Since July is almost upon us I selected this article about a beach bungalow on Nantucket Island....gets one in the mood for summer nights, seabreezes (both the literal ones and the drinks) grilling, suntans... you know all the stuff that goes along with this time of year.

I like how he just stuck the decorative papers so they are not permanent.

Love the paintings hanging outside by the makeshift bar

Hella Cool

One of my favorite designers, Hella Jongerius is profiled in the July/August 2011 issue of Dwell magazine.  It is really interesting to see her studio and have a glimpse into her process.

Strawberry good

This is my sisters recipe for strawberry bread.  Whenever I make this it is always a hit.  I bought a bunch of strawberries for $3 recently, but they looked better then they tasted.  So I thought to use them up by baking this bread.  You can also substitute different berries for the strawberries...I have tried blackberries before and it was just a good.  You can also add pecans or walnuts to the bread if you wish.  The recipe makes two loaves so eat one and freeze the other or give it to someone who would enjoy or needs a bit of strawberry bread in their life.

Cut up about 3 cups worth of strawberries...I usually put more then what is required

Dry ingredients....flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon

You need four eggs beaten along with 1 and 1/4 cups oil (this is one time where I don't use olive oil)

Mixe the wet with the dry

Super thick batter, but don't be afraid

Americana

Last Sunday I was in Laguna Beach for brunch with friends and near the brunch stop were a few galleries, (as anyone who has been to Laguna knows they have a few.)  This large painting of match books caught my eye.  I didn't have time to stop and really look at all the work, but from a quick glance I really liked what I saw.  Really I liked the use of scale, color and detail.  These paintings are all watercolor.  I don't know how he painted the text so clear....they look like graphic prints to me not watercolor paintings.  As well I like his americana theme.  Makes me happy to think America used to be this simple.  Check the artist out, Robert Townsend : http://www.gcgallery.com/index.php

Love the title "Blue Impala with sprinkles"

Stupid

Last year I saw this Diesel campaign, "Be Stupid."  It was genius.  What it speaks of is very true.  I kept the catalog and was recently  flipping through it.  While I contemplated placing the entire thing on here, (because it was that good,) I thought it was too much work for me.  So simply I am lazy.  So here are a few snippets, enjoy.

ABC

This store is just plain awesome.  It is in New York City super close to Fishs Eddy and I love to browse in here for hours.  (I have just included pictures of the first floor and I think there are like 9 floors with furniture and other stuff....way too much!)  Very expensive but a great place to buy pieces here and there and see what is on trend.  A must stop! http://www.abchome.com/systemPage/home/tabid/190/Default.aspx

First floor overview

Really like this "soft neon" yellow lamp

Not your average finish on these dishes, beautiful

I saw a lot of raw edges on dishes, unfinished on purpose is in

Items you normally dispose of are made out of ceramic to be more precious

Fantasy forest!  Love this!
